The Philosophy

Performance sports are not one-size-fits-all. The more technical the sport, the more important it is that the equipment matches the athlete.

Five Reasons

Why Nomad builds custom.

This isn't a sales pitch for a bigger price tag — it's how every serious performance sport already works. Here's the thinking behind every Nomad we build.

01

Every athlete is different

No two riders have the same weight, height, strength, riding style, skill level, or local conditions.

A 65 kg rider shouldn't be using exactly the same flex pattern as a 95 kg rider — yet mass-produced equipment often expects them to.

Weight Height Strength Riding Style Skill Level Local Conditions
02

Custom equipment reduces compromise

Production gear is designed to satisfy thousands of people at the lowest manufacturing cost. Custom gear is designed to satisfy one person.

Better Control More Efficiency Less Fatigue Greater Confidence Faster Progression
03

Energy efficiency matters

When equipment works with you instead of against you, you use less energy correcting mistakes. For kiteboarding, a board that flexes correctly for your weight plane earlier, tracks more naturally, and absorbs chop — so you land softer and ride longer without tiring your legs.

Planes Earlier Tracks Naturally Absorbs Chop Lands Softer Rides Longer
04

Professionals already demand custom gear

Elite athletes rarely compete on standard equipment. Formula 1 drivers have custom seats and steering wheels. Professional cyclists ride bikes fitted to the millimetre. Olympic skiers tune skis for specific snow conditions. Golf professionals are fitted for shafts, lofts, and lie angles.

Kiteboarding is no different. The rider deserves equipment designed around them.

05

More enjoyment

This is often the most persuasive point. People don't spend thousands on a sport just to fight with their equipment.

The right equipment disappears beneath you. It becomes an extension of your body, allowing you to focus on the feeling of riding rather than compensating for the board.

On The Water

This is what a flex matched to you feels like.

How It Works

From conversation to coastline.

Every custom build follows the same five steps — refined over 25 years and more than 4,000 boards.

01

Tell Us About You

Weight, height, riding style, skill level, and local conditions — the same variables that make a board yours.

02

We Calculate Your Flex

Width, length-width ratio, and flex stiffness are mapped to your data, refined by decades of builds.

03

Hand-Laid in Germany

Every core, carbon layup, and rocker profile is built by hand, board by board — not off a production line.

04

Tested in Tarifa

Flex profiles are proven in the wind before a layup is ever finalized for your build.

05

Shipped To You

Typically 10–15 days from order to delivery. Built once, built right.

Simon Harvey, Nomad founder and shaper
Meet The Shaper

Every board leaves as one-of-one.

Nomad was born in 2001 in Tarifa, Spain, shaped by strong winds and a stubborn belief that gear should adapt to the rider — not the other way around. Today every board is hand-laid in our workshop in the south of Germany.

When you order a custom Nomad, you're not choosing from a size chart. You're talking directly to the person who will calculate your flex, lay up your carbon, and sign off on your board before it ships.

That's not a marketing line — it's the only way we know how to build a kiteboard that disappears beneath your feet.

"Lightest board I've ridden in 7 knots and still holds its line at full power. This is what German engineering feels like."

Custom FAQ

Questions before you order.

Width is calculated individually from your weight, and a length-width ratio is formed from there. Stiffness is then tuned by varying core thickness and carbon layup — a board built for a heavier rider is stiffer than one built for a lighter rider, so both bend into the same efficient rocker profile.

Standard custom build time is 10–15 days from confirmed order to shipping, since every board is laid up individually rather than pulled from stock.

Yes — metallics, neons, and full rainbow color sets are all on the table. Tell us your idea when you submit the custom order form and we'll talk it through with you.

Just say so on the form. With 4,000 twin-tips built over 25 years, we're used to guiding riders through sizing by weight, skill level, and local wind conditions — no guesswork required on your end.

Yes, every Nomad ships worldwide from our workshop in Germany, with full tracking provided once your board is on its way.
